Why NAUI?NAUI is one of the oldest certification programs, having begun in 1959, and has a well developed curriculum and philosophy that a well-educated diver is a safer diver. We agree. The NAUI curriculum is well defined, has clear learning objectives for divers to master, and it's award winning design philosophy means that students can learn rapidly through the use of multiple media formats.
Special ClassesPreserving Maritime History--A primer in underwater archeology In this special course and activity program you become a valued member of the community involved in documenting and preserving our maritime heritage. As the years pass many historically significant items are lost to the elements, changing bathymetry, and human attempts to protect the environment. Bottle hunting and artifact hunting is a popular activity in the diving community, however even the smallest piece of bottle or collection of ballast rocks is important in understanding and documenting naval history. The Northern Puget Sound and Straits of Juan de Fuca are rich with maritime history in the form of wrecks, dunnage, and wharfage along waterfront communities. As a student in the program you will become a key participant in the vital project to document and preserve history. The course itself teaches you the basics of underwater surveying, documenting your findings, and identification/research techniques. Next class series begins: March 24 @ 6:00pm Trim and Buoyancy--A hands-on seminar Let's take some time to play with our gear and get our weights and tanks where they need to be in relation to our personal center of effort. We will review trim and buoyancy techniques as well as have the opportunity to dry test your equipment and weighting placement. Classes: March 17 @ 6:00 pm Gas Management and Dive Planning Most of us know it's not a good idea to try and go to 200fsw on an aluminium 80, but there's more to dive planning than that. Find out how to calculate your consumption rates including SAC and RMV. Learn about rock-bottom times and how they can help you plan your dive with respect to your cylinder volume.
